Stimulus spending ramps up

As promised earlier this year by Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, economic-stimulus spending is increasing this summer as the construction season hits its seasonal peak. The majority of the funds will be used to repair highways and bridges. Rail and port projects will also receive funding. The DOT has made available more than $20 billion for states to draw on as of July 3, and has paid out more than $520 million to fund approved projects.
