AAR records drop in carload traffic, intermodal volume

Freight traffic on major U.S. railroads dipped 3.2% in the week ended July 9 compared to year-ago levels, while intermodal volume dipped just 0.2%, according to the Association of American Railroads. However, carload traffic data from 13 U.S., Canadian and Mexican railways rose 2.5% in the past 27 weeks compared to last year, and intermodal volume grew by 6.9%.
