Rare joint hearing examines incentives for business, household debt in the tax code

The Senate Finance Committee and the House Ways and Means Committee convened a joint hearing on whether the tax code provides too many incentives to accumulate debt instead of equity. The joint hearing by Congress' tax-writing committees -- the first since 1940 -- heard testimony on the tax treatment of business and household debt.
