Demolition finishes early for $1B Calif. bridge project

Demolition work on the Pier T Avenue off-ramp as part of the $1 billion Gerald Desmond Bridge replacement between Long Beach and San Pedro, Calif., finished almost 17 hours earlier than expected, allowing traffic to resume much sooner, according to officials of the Port of Long Beach. The completed demolition will allow construction to advance on the new bridge to be built parallel to the existing structure.
