FHWA extends compliance date of Buy America for water, pipe work

Last year's transportation bill mandated that any project that requires relocation of pipes or utilities must use U.S.-made materials. Utility companies objected, and now the Federal Highway Administration has extended the deadline for compliance with the rule. That means construction can begin on schedule for California's $1.3 billion Route 91 expansion and the "second phase of a $76 million interchange upgrade."
