Showdown looms for president's nominees

A vote on Richard Cordray's nomination as director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and votes on several other presidential nominees are set for Tuesday before the Senate. Democratic leaders say Republicans are blocking nominees because they are in opposition to the specific agencies involved. As a result, Democrats are threatening to change filibuster rules for executive nominations to prevent Republicans from blocking them. Republicans say the move would create gridlock.
