Skype is asking developers to use Skype uniform resource identifiers instead of its Desktop application programming interface, which it plans to decommission it this year. According to Chris Andrews, head of the Skype Developer Program, the App Directory will shutter in September, although the company will continue to maintain Desktop API for the rest of the year. Skype says the switch to URIs will allow developers to access Skype via mobile, Web and desktop platforms, unlike the 2004-era Desktop APIs, which did not service mobile.
