In Mississippi, buyers choose smaller engines to offset high gas prices

Lawn mowers are still selling well in Columbus, Miss., but dealers there say they see a trend toward smaller engines as gas prices continue to rise. "Nine times out of 10, when you're talking about lawn products, they're not necessarily asking for the biggest engines anymore," says a garden department team leader at the local Lowe's store. Electric mowers, on the other hand, are such slow sellers that the Sears store in Columbus doesn't keep them in stock.
