NYC to impose fines for overweight trucks using bridges, tunnels

Worried about excess wear and tear -- and the high cost of repairs -- New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority will begin levying fines of as much as $10,000 for trucks more than 80,000 pounds using NYC bridges and tunnels. The MTA's Bridges and Tunnels division says it cites more than 100 overweight trucks every month, some weighing as much as 200,000 pounds.
