Jet fuel costs decline in May, DOT reports

U.S. airlines spent an average of $1.73 a gallon on fuel in May, down from $3.23 in the same month last year. From April to May, average fuel costs dropped by a penny. Cheaper fuel has helped to offset a plunge in air traffic caused by the global recession.
