Proposals would change accounting for financial instruments under IFRS

The International Accounting Standards Board released proposals for how financial instruments such as mortgage-backed securities would be classified and measured. In accordance with recommendations from the Group of 20, the IASB plans to finalize the proposals in time for nonmandatory application to 2009 year-end financial statements.
