Senate committee votes to extend Highway Trust Fund

The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee this week approved spending $20 billion on highway construction and repairs. The committee also approved legislation that would extend the federal highway program, now set to expire Sept. 30, for an additional 18 months. However, some House lawmakers oppose the bill and instead support a six-year reauthorization bill worth hundreds of billions.
