Auditing infection data is necessary to ensure accuracy

New York state audits of mandatory reports on health care-associated infection rates have found that some hospitals make mistakes in their reporting that could skew the data. Officials said by comparing information submitted to the CDC with patient records, auditors found hospitals misunderstood some terminology, such as the duration of a procedure.
