BASF is adding Shanghai polyurethane plant to boost auto-parts unit

BASF is constructing a Shanghai plant to expand its Cellasto automotive unit, which makes and distributes microcellular polyurethane elastomers. The new plant is being located near BASF's thermoplastic urethane plant, and the site is expected to be complete during the first half of 2011, a BASF spokesman said. The company offers a "global scale" advantage "because customers not only save on development costs, they also have a reliable single global supplier," a BASF executive said.
