Lawmaker: Independence would help TSA improve efficiency

Allowing the Transportation Security Administration to operate more independently would improve efficiency at the TSA, Rep. John Mica, R-Fla., said. He also said the TSA administrator should be among the first offices appointed by the president. "It shouldn't be a third-tier appointment -- it should be right up front so somebody's always in the position," Mica said. "You've got to have somebody in charge, you've got to have a better definition of what they do, you've got to be able to pay them better."
