Calif. provider dismisses staff for inappropriate data access

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center officials announced the dismissal of a medical assistant, an unpaid student research assistant and four employees of community doctors who have staff privileges at the hospital for inappropriately accessing the health records of 14 patients between June 18 and 24. Although a hospital spokeswoman did not identify which patient records were involved, the breach took place several days after reality TV star Kim Kardashian gave birth at the facility on June 15. Officials said the people involved in the incident will be permanently denied access to the hospital's records even if they are later employed at other health facilities.
