How Syfy stirred up a "Sharknado"

The made-for-TV movie "Sharknado" was just the latest over-the-top B-movie churned out by Syfy's movie-production division. The company produces about 24 movies a year at a cost of just $1.5 million apiece, with recent hits including monster movies featuring a chupacabra and an enormous alligator. "The phrase we use internally is 'ridiculously entertaining,' " says Thomas Vitale, the network's original-movies chief. "We have fun brainstorming sessions, I can tell you that."
