India seeks to unseat China as "manufacturing hub of the world"

India recently unveiled its vision to replace China as "the manufacturing hub of the world" by building industrial cities to attract foreign investors. "The programme envisages development of infrastructure linkages like pioneer plants, assured water supply, high capacity transportation and logistics facilities," according to a government website. The country's Commerce and Industry Minister was in New York last week to promote the initiative to business leaders, but U.S. lawmakers remain skeptical about India's economic policies, recently alleging unfair trade practices and protectionism.
