Legal experts: Improve patient follow-up to reduce liability

Data show that inadequate patient follow-up, failure to contact patients after missed appointments, lack of medical record documentation and delays in referrals are key liability risks for physicians, and they are becoming even more of an issue as team-based care increases, legal experts said. Staff training on communication and follow-up policies can help reduce risks, they said.
