Mars bases, moon mining and the environmental ethics of space

Private space exploration is becoming reality, and environmentalists and policymakers are trying to overcome space debris and other challenges to the "magnificent desolation" of the moon, Mars and other celestial bodies. "We want to encourage the utilization and exploration of outer space," says lawyer Leslie Tennen. "At the same time, space law clearly recognizes that there's an obligation to be mindful of the rights of future generations."
