Mich. subcommittee set to debate future of the common core

Michigan lawmakers serving on a subcommittee will hold the first hearings Tuesday on a proposal to halt the state's implementation of the Common Core State Standards. Under the proposal, the state would withdraw from the standards, which critics say represent too much federal involvement in education. The state has already prohibited funding to implement the standards or the Smarter Balanced Assessment.
