The reality of AP courses and college readiness

The Advanced Placement program since its inception has been billed as having more rigorous coursework that helps prepare students for college-level instruction. AP courses are not a "panacea," according to this article, as some colleges do not accept the weighted GPAs that often accompany AP courses, while others do not allow students to opt out of introductory courses based on passing AP exams. According to national data, about 40% of students do not pass their AP courses.
