Rep. Bachus introduces bill to hasten permitting process

A bill to streamline construction approvals has been introduced in the House by Rep. Spencer Bachus, R-Ala. He said that "the bill would address duplicate state and federal reviews, set environmental impact statement deadlines and a statute of limitations for challenges to final environmental impact statements." Bacchus believes this could boost employment and get projects like the $5 billion Northern Beltline in Birmingham off the ground more quickly. Some environmentalists oppose the bill.
