States work to improve quality of teacher-training programs

The push for higher academic standards for students has put teacher-preparation programs in the spotlight, and some state officials are working to improve such programs. Connecticut, Indiana, Colorado, Ohio, North Carolina and, last month, Delaware have passed legislation that among other things set new requirements for teacher preparation that include more time as student-teachers.
