Health information exchanges in 10 states that have experienced hurricanes, tornadoes and floods in recent years have banded together with the federal government to ensure the safety and integrity of their medical records. "[W]e have learned the importance of protecting patients' health records through electronic tools like health information exchanges," said Dr. Farzad Mostashari, national HIT coordinator.
