N.C. college-readiness program sees growth after small beginnings

Student U, a nonprofit that helps middle- and high-school students in Durham, N.C., prepare for college, has grown from a single sixth-grade class in 2007 to include 390 students and 46 teachers this year. Dan Kimberg co-founded Student U in partnership with Durham Public Schools when he was a 19-year-old college student. About 85% of participants would be the first in their families to attend college.
