Safeway considers selling Canadian drugs in U.S.

Canada Safeway is considering shipping wholesale Canadian prescription drugs to its parent company's network of 1,200 pharmacies in the U.S., and is considering competing head-to-head with Canadian Internet pharmacies by starting a mail-order business that would ship retail drugs directly to U.S. citizens. "Cross-border drugs are an opportunity for anyone in this market," said Barry Peachment, the company's director of pharmacy. It's unclear how the U.S. federal government would react to such a move.
