Southwest CEO resigns

Southwest Airlines CEO James F. Parker resigned unexpectedly yesterday after the carrier reported a 54% drop in second-quarter profits. Parker had been engaged in often difficult negotiations with Southwest's flight attendants union. Southwest tapped Chief Financial Officer Gary C. Kelly to take Parker's place.
