Auto, airline industries may hold key to health safety

Health care experts have begun to look at safety and quality models within other high-speed, high-intensity environments to improve medical care in the U.S. One example is the team-based crew-resource management approach devised by the aviation industry with NASA and the Federal Aviation Administration in response to fatal plane crashes in the 1970s. CRM is now used at hospitals including the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.
