FDIC takes step to boost banks' liquidity

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. approved a new policy aimed at encouraging the development of a "covered bond" market. The policy comes as regulators try to take steps to aid bank liquidity and is aimed at directing more funding toward mortgage lending. Broad liquidity risk-management policies are expected to be published by U.S. and foreign regulators in the next few months.
