Researchers: FDG-PET helpful in predicting cancer growth

A U.S. research group has said that the preferred way to evaluate lung cancer is through FDG-PET because the imaging technique can predict cancer growth rates. During the study, patients diagnosed with Stage 1 lung cancer underwent FDG-PET and CT scanning. The group also noted that the use of FDG-PET scans "may help individualize treatment in those in whom the risk versus benefit of aggressive therapy is not clear cut."
