Study: Maternal obesity may lead to obesity in next generation

Researchers working on mice found that maternal obesity may influence the future weight of offspring because conditions in the womb environment may alter the function of genes, particularly in appetite control. The findings indicate that a mother's weight may affect "the establishment of the body weight regulatory mechanism," the lead researcher said.
