HHS data: One-third of ED visits by low-income patients

Nearly one-fifth of 120 million hospital emergency department visits in 2006 were by patients who didn't have health insurance, according to new HHS data. The report also showed about one-fifth of the visits were made by people living in rural areas and one-third by low-income patients.
