Women see numbers rise in hot-air ballooning

While overall interest in ballooning seems to be on the decline, more women are taking up the sport, according to Walt Rudy, president of the Central Ohio Balloon Club. Rudy estimates that three-quarters of aeronauts are men, though that seems to be changing. Women and men must meet the same requirements in the physically demanding sport, "So to me, it's on a level playing field," says pilot Laurie Givin.
