Department of Labor passes 401(k) transparency rules

Starting July 16, 2011, 401(k) service providers will have to provide employers with information detailing how the money they pay toward their employees' retirement plans is used, including how much is taken out for fees. Another regulation expected to be released in the next few months will require employers to provide their employees with similar information. The Department of Labor will take comments on the rules until Aug. 30.
