Parvovirus outbreak at R.I. shelter prompts euthanasia of 21 dogs

An outbreak of canine parvovirus has been detected at the Providence Animal Control Center in Rhode Island, prompting city officials to euthanize approximately 50% of the dogs housed in the shelter. The shelter has been under quarantine since July 7 after a dog was found to be exhibiting signs of the fatal virus.
