Senate committee shifts NASA's direction by canceling moon program

The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation decided on Thursday to end a NASA program to return to the moon, instead opting to use funds to speed development of a shuttle that would take astronauts to Mars. The committee also decided to fund commercial endeavors to build rockets that would bring astronauts to a low Earth orbit.
