Study: California buildings waste 80% of their energy

California's commercial buildings use 37% of the state's energy, and as much as 80% of that total is simply being wasted, according to a new study. That's troubling, but it also points to the scope of potential energy and cost savings, says F. Noel Perry, founder of Next 10, the nonprofit group that sponsored the study. "Relatively low-tech energy-efficiency fixes could save California businesses and the state government significant money and help to generate jobs," Perry said.
