Microsoft: We want users to know about our data sharing

Microsoft has asked Attorney General Eric Holder for permission to publicize how it has dealt with government data-sharing requests, in an effort to soothe concerns about data use. An initial request last week to the Justice Department was rejected. In a blog post, Microsoft said that it responds only to requests for "specific accounts and identifiers" and doesn't hand over "blanket or indiscriminate access to Microsoft's customer data."
