NPD: Prepared foods could eat into restaurant sales

Sales of prepared foods from retail outlets such as supermarkets and drug stores for consumption at home will rise 10% by 2022, taking business away from restaurants, predicts a survey from NPD Group. According to the survey, shoppers ages 18 to 34 are most likely to purchase prepared food from retailers for afternoon or evening snacks while those 35 and older are more likely to purchase prepared foods for a dinner at home.
