Smoothies can be a healthy snack or even breakfast if they include protein, fiber and fat for satiety, but registered dietitian Molly Kimball cautions that added sugars should be kept to a minimum. She writes that a smoothie's base liquid should include fewer than 50 calories per cup, that protein options can be yogurt or tofu, and that heart-healthy fats can be nut butters or avocado.
