Review finds long-term benefits of gastric sleeve surgery

An analysis in Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases showed obese patients who underwent laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy attained a mean excessive BMI reduction of 57.4% over five years. However, researchers found 34.3% of those who had the surgery as their primary procedure and 50% of those who had it following failed gastric banding still showed a BMI above 35 kg/m2 after five years.
