Socioeconomic status may explain racial gap in dementia rates

Blacks were 44% more likely to develop dementia than whites, but the hazard ratio for blacks became 1.08 after taking into account socioeconomic factors, an analysis found. The findings, presented at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference, were based on 12 years of data on 3,075 people in the Health, Aging, and Body Composition Study.
