U.K. to end use of Liverpool care pathway following review

A review of the Liverpool care pathway recommended it be discontinued because of poor training, a lack of compassion by caregivers and a reliance on junior physicians to make end-of-life decisions in some circumstances. The U.K. government said it would end the program and require hospitals to review end-of-life care. The report includes 44 recommendations, among them that individual end-of-life care plans should be created for patient nearing that stage.
