Tiny grains of gold are deadly to bacteria, with the ability to penetrate cell walls and attack from within, according to Hong Liang, a professor of materials science and engineering at Texas A&M. The discovery could prove crucial in a world in which some bacteria are developing resistance to antibiotics.
