Health data easy mark for hackers, experts say

Highly organized and competent criminals are targeting health data because it's a relatively easy mark and rich in personal information, according to industry experts. Hospitals and health care data systems generally do not institute the many levels of technology needed to defend against cyberattacks, and they tend to understaff their IT security. "The facts are that Web attacks against information systems in the health care sector are increasing at an alarming rate," said David Holtzman, vice president of compliance at CynergisTek, a security consulting company.
