Auto, manufacturing skew unemployment claims, DOL says

The Department of Labor said new unemployment claims fell to 522,000 for the second week of July. That's the second consecutive weekly decline and better than analysts' forecasts. However, analysts also noted that timing in the automotive and manufacturing sectors skewed results. "This big drop is not an indication of what's going on economically, it's more an issue with the seasonal factor," a department statistician said.
