GE's long-term prospects dimmed by real estate exposure

Analysts expect General Electric to meet their earnings projections, but investors are worried about the real estate exposure of its GE Capital unit, which is struggling with real estate write-offs and delinquencies. GE's accrual accounting, which generally does not require that real estate equity values be marked to market promptly, makes it difficult to evaluate the performance of the company's real estate assets.
