Health reform bills call for testing medical home models

The health care reform bill in the House contains $125 million for a pilot project to evaluate two types of medical homes, one run by a physician or nurse practitioner and the other by a nonprofit community organization or state. The Senate HELP committee bill also contains language for a similar program. In the House bill, the models will be rated on improvements in quality, efficiency, and coordination of care, patient satisfaction and reductions in ER visits and hospital readmissions.
