Hoover Dam bridge to be longest concrete arch in Western Hemisphere

When completed in 2010, the Hoover Dam bypass bridge will stand as the longest concrete arch in the Western Hemisphere. The $114 million bridge will replace the road on top of the dam as the main route between Phoenix and Las Vegas. When the dam was completed in 1935, the town of Las Vegas had 8,000 residents, and the road was not designed to handle the eventual massive influx of tourist traffic.
